Polar Books
From time to time, I'll be writing about hot-off-the-press books.
Yesterday morning (while the temp was still below zero), I read I, Matthew Henson by Carole Boston Weatherford (Walker, 2008. 32 pp.)
What an incredible book! Henson accompanied Robert Peary on seven expeditions over a span of two decades, finally arriving at the North Pole on April 6, 1909.
One of the book's most impressive features is the pounding prose rhythm that reflects Henson's determination. Equally powerful is the ongoing racism that haunted his life. (Don't miss the Author's Note!)
What nonfiction books have you been reading? What features have touched you? Respond to this post so the rest of us will know. Thanks!

Jean,
I just started reading a non-fiction book called "The Secret of Priest's Grotto-A Holocaust Survival Story" by Peter Lane Taylor.
It's about three Jewish families that survived the Holocaust by living in underground caves in the Ukraine.
